This activity is designed to work in more generic settings where young people have not necessarily openly sought support in questioning their gender identity or sexual orientation.

1. Ask the group to discuss how they think the poet feels about his mother and what their relationship is like.
2. Ask everyone to write their own Freedom of Love poem using the same format as Dean Atta’s, where each begins by saying who the person is e.g. My sister… / My sister… / My sister… or My father… / My father… / My father… or My partner… / My partner… / My partner… etc.
